Leaping Light Arches:

18 April 2007

Ballarat has had severe water restrictions for the last 2 years preventing the inclusion of a water feature in our display.

Ken and Kevin Maxwell, from the Planet Christmas forum, came up with the idea of the "Leaping Light Arches" that look like those cool water features, where water shoots out of the ground, forms an arc and then disappears back into the ground. In the Maxwell's design they replace water with segments of switched white light.

At DazzlingLights, for 2007, we have built 4 Leaping Light Arches (not like the photo above) and expanded on the original concept by adding the ability to select green and red lights as well. Each Leaping Light Arch uses a dedicated 16 channel LOR controller and each of the arches are 2m wide x 1.4m high. There are 1,000 White LEDs, 1,000 Green LEDs and 1,000 Red LEDs (3,000 total) in each Leaping Light Arch spread across 10 segments and 2 splash pools.

Plans for the design of the Leaping Light Arches can be seen here.
