DMX Controllable LED Spotlights:

7 June 2007

Arthur, from the Christmas Kingdom, kindly brought in a sample Par 64 DMX controllable LED Spotlight from China for us to try.

The spotlight comprises 43 Red, 53 Green and 53 Blue 10mm LEDs. The 3 RGB colours can be stepped, using DMX control, in intensity from Off to full brightness allowing any colour to be generated. A 4th DMX channel can be used to change the overall intensity or enable strobing effects. The desired DMX starting channel is set through a DIP switch on the rear of the unit. Power consumption is approximately 30 Watts @ 240VAC.

The plan is to use 3 of these spotlights to illuminate and provide a wash effect for the front of the house. Another 1 or 2 will be used to replace the 6 spotlights that illuminate the Christmas Bush. Some form of external weatherproof enclosure will be required for these spotlights to be used outside.

A piece of diffusing plastic, similar to that found on flourescent light fittings has been attached to the front to soften and spread the light over a larger area. In the following images the spotlight was approximately 6m away from the house. The middle row of the images are with the diffusing filter attached and the bottom row of the imagess are with the diffusing filter removed.
